HMWN Radio Maria - Presents the Life of Sr. Carmelina Tarantino

The book “On the Cross with a Smile”, written by Gabriele Cingolani,

Narrated by Rocco Coluccio.

Carmelina Tarantino was born in Liveri (Naples), Italy in 1937 and arrived in Toronto in 1964, searching for answers to an unexplained illness that baffled doctors in her homeland. Canadian doctors suspected a rare form of cancer but it was never confirmed. Carmelina suffered through many painful operations and treatments. Through it all, she maintained a devout life of prayer.

Introduction:

FROM AN ORDINARY LIFE - TO A SIGNIFICANT STORY.

It begins like any ordinary life, similar to millions of others. It would not be worth telling if it were not for what happened later. It happened that an ordinary girl, born in Italy and settled in Canada, instead of marrying and flowering into life like the vast majority, is hindered by illness. Whoever watches things solely from the outside would say that it is a tragedy. A destiny of misfortune and sadness. During that period many emigrated in search of work and well being. She emigrated in search of health. She did not find it. Not even a modern metropolis like Toronto was able to restore it. She did however find something much more precious. Our materialistic skepticism turns up its nose and scoffs in scorn. Is there anything more important than health? Of course! There is love, joy, peace, and the gift of self that realizes and renders joy even without things that usually seem indispensable.

This is success. This is special, and therefore we have decided to tell her story.

HMWN Radio Maria is presenting a series of programs that recount the life of Sr. Carmelina Tarantino.

Reflections and Prayers by Sister Carmelina of the Cross for Every Day of the Week.

Sister Carmelina Tarantino

These selected prayers are taken, with permission, from Sister Carmelina's writings and from the letters she wrote to the Societa Unita, published in the newsletter "II Ponte." She uses simple words, but they are touching because they reveal her profound love for Jesus's Cross, a love that animated her prayers and her daily life.
