It is an Eastern spirituality introduced to the West by Catherine Doherty in the early 1960s. Poustinia is basically a place/room/cabin set aside for one to go and encounter God in silence and solitude with prayer and fasting, our food being the scriptures, the Word of God. In other words, poustinia is a desert experience... and through that experience, we find the door to our own heart where the Holy Trinity dwells
