A Christocentric Prayer
Praying the Rosary leads the Christian soul to the contemplation of Christ in his mysteries. While Marian in nature, the Rosary is at heart a Christocentric prayer which is highly recommended by the Church. Its value flows from the fact that, at the same time, it is a vocal prayer and a meditation of the mysteries of our salvation.
The Purpose of the Holy Rosary
Praying the Rosary leads the Christian soul to the contemplation of Christ in his mysteries. While Marian in nature, the Rosary is at heart a Christocentric prayer which is highly recommended by the Church. Its value flows from the fact that, at the same time, it is a vocal prayer and a meditation of the mysteries of our salvation
The Rosary Proper
According to the recommendation of the Apostolic Letter “Rosarium Mariae Virginis” of Pope John Paul II (October 16th, 2002), to reflect more fully the Gospel, the mysteries of the New Rosary are brought to twenty and subdivided into: The Joyful Mysteries, prayed on Monday and Saturday, The Sorrowful Mysteries, said on Tuesday and Friday, The Mysteries of Light, on Thursday, and The Glorious Mysteries, prayed on Wednesday and Sunday (see no. 38).
In the same letter (nos. 30 and 31) the Pope suggests that (a) the announcement of the mysteries should be followed (b) by “the proclamation of the related Biblical passage” and then (c) by a “suitable period” of silent meditation. In addition, after the “Glory Be”, (d) a “concluding short prayer” is recommended, relating to the “fruits specific to that particular mystery” (no. 35).
Faithful to the papal recommendations we posit the following structure for the devout recitation of each mystery.
Structure of Each Mystery
1. The Announcement of the Mystery
2. The proclamation of the Word of God
3. A moment of silent meditation
4. One Our Father ....
5. Ten Hail Mary ....
6. One Glory Be

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead.On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
On the first large bead, recite one Our Father.
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
On the three small beads recite the Hail Mary for an increase in the three theologial virtues of Faith, Hope and Love
Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed are thou among women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
