Prayer for Christian Unity: 18th - 25th January.

The theme for the 2012 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is drawn from 1 Cor 15:51-58 which states -
"We will all be changed by the Victory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Day Three - Changed by the Suffering Servant

Christ suffered for us (cf. 1 Pt 2:21)

This day calls us to reflect on the suffering of Christ. Following Christ the Suffering Servant, Christians are called to solidarity with all who suffer. The closer we come to the cross of Christ the closer we come to one another.

Prayer for Christian Unity:
God of Light, we give you thanks for the revelation of your truth in Jesus Christ which we have received through the apostles' teaching. May your Holy Spirit continue to sanctify us in the truth of your Son, so that united in him we may grow in devotion to the Word, and together serve your Kingdom in humility and love.
In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

Today is the feast of St. Fabian and St. Sebastian. They have always been venerated together, and their names were coupled in the ancient martyrologies, as they are still in the Litany of Saints.

* St. Fabian was Pope from 236 to 250 AD. He promoted the consolidation and development of the Church.
* St. Sebastian, a native of Milan, was an officer in Diocletian's imperial guard. He later became a Christian.
