"Values, Hopes and Dreams"

"There is a huge pressure to perform, be successful, be cool and to be far more than we can be.
Failure and disappointments are part and parcel of life.
We can use them as stepping stones and as moments of growth.
We ask God today to help us seize such moments of growth.

Prayer for Christian Unity: 18th - 25th January.

The theme for the 2012 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is drawn from 1 Cor 15:51-58 which states -
"We will all be changed by the Victory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Day Four - Changed by the Lord’s Victory over Evil

Overcome evil with good (Rom 12:21)

This day takes us deeper into the struggles against evil. Victory in Christ is an overcoming of all that damages God’s creation, and keeps us apart from one another. In Jesus we are called to share in this new life, struggling with him against what is wrong in our world, with renewed confidence and with a delight in what is good. In our divisions we cannot be strong enough to overcome evil in our times.

Prayer for Christian Unity:
God of Justice, your giving is without bounds. We thank you that you have given what we need. Inspire us to be instruments of love, sharing all that you give us, as a witness to your generosity and justice. As followers of Christ, lead us to act together in places of want.
We pray in the name of Jesus, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today is the memorial of "St. Agnes" (c. 304). She is numbered among the most famous martyrs of Rome. When the Diocletian persecution was at its height, and when priests as well as laymen were apostatizing from the faith, Agnes, a girl of twelve, freely chose to die for Christ.
