Thoughts and Prayer for Today

"Daily Spiritual Journey "

"Another thing that may upset those who dedicate themselves to prayer is distractions which come during it. The mind is led astray and often with it the heart, too. Sometimes these distractions are caused by a lack of mortification of the senses, other times by the distracted state of the soul, and still more often they are permitted by the Lord to test His servants. Now, when bothered by distractions, one must call his thoughts back from time to time, stirring up his faith in the presence of God, and stay in the presence reverently and respectfully. If he cannot keep his mind on the appointed subjects, he must bear these vexations and annoyances humbly and patiently."
